Reading the UPA

Musa is easier to learn because it's featural: the letters form patterns. Take a look at the following:

P T K
B D
П Т К
Б Д
پ ت ك
ب د

Unless you know the first three alphabets, there's no way for you to guess the missing letters. But with the Musa Alphabet, you can see the pattern: the missing letter is , whose top shape matches the rest of the row and whose bottom shape matches the rest of the column. Those shapes correspond to phonetic features; we'll explain how.

The short presentation below is intended to give you a basic introduction to Musa. You'll see how it works, you'll learn the most common letters, and you'll know what to do when you meet a letter you don't recognize. We'll use examples from numerous languages, since that's one of the best reasons to learn the UPA: to pronounce foreign names correctly. It only takes a few minutes, and gets you off to a good start.
